2012 US Primary Election
Predictions For The 2012 US Primary Election
I have always been extremely interested in the subject of politics. American politics especially always seem to put a little spring in my step, a little spark in my day. The topic is exciting, exhilarating even, because whatever happens will shape the country (and to a certain degree, the world) for years to come. That is a big reason that I enjoy exploring the possibilities of the latest election long before it actual begins.
Now, you may be wondering why it is that I am explaining this to you, the reader. I suppose it is to let you know why I have chosen to begin speculating on the outcome of the 2012 Primary Election so long before it is due. After all, we only just left the last one behind us, and Barack Obama has held the seat of power for less then six months. In any case, I never think it is too early to look into the future of out country, and so, here are my predictions for the 2012 US Primary Election.
First, I think that the democrats will continue to hold the attention of the country, if only because of the failing of the Republicans over the last several years. Even now their attempts at changing their image to one that is likely to bring back the young vote (which President Obama was able to heavily capitalize during his time as a presidential nominee) have been a barely less then catastrophic. Even Meghan McCain, daughter of Senator John McCain who ran as the GOP pick against Obama, has some strong words against the direction of the party.
Second, I think that the Republicans will give up their attempt at renewing the party with a new image, after several attempts continue to fail over the next four years. Instead, I believe they will turn mostly to old stand-ins for the nomination, such as Mike Huckabee, who is already rumored as the most prominent GOP selection.
Third, I think that Sarah Palin will once again rear her head as she tries to make a bid for the White House, one that won't take her past the initial weeks of the Primary Election, and will keep her far from the caucuses and events that she will be struggling to be a part of. In the meantime we will be faced with a few more months of her milking all the publicity she can as the 24-hour news networks jump on board the Palin wagon once again.
In the end, I think Barack Obama will be reelected for a second term, though this is based mostly on the competition, rather then performance at this point. It is still too early to tell what legacy he will leave behind, but so far he seems to be doing well at keeping up to a large portion of his campaign promises. That, and the fact that he has taken on the country in such a desperate time, shows his strengths as a representative of the Left. While it may be too soon to say for sure, I think my predictions will prove to be true when the time comes.
But don't quote me on that.
